The technology behind it

ZIEHL-ABEGG, technology for ventilation, regulation, and drive systems.

ZIEHL-ABEGG develops and manufactures ventilation technology, motors, and control systems with more than a century of experience. Its strength lies in internally combining the key elements of the system: fan, motor, and regulation technology. This integration allows precise coordination between airflow, pressure, efficiency, noise, and control.

As the sole official ZIEHL-ABEGG distributor in Guatemala, at STAR we integrate this technology into complete industrial projects and also supply it as equipment, with factory support. We translate each plant's operating needs into an installed, balanced, and functional system, from technical assessment, calculation, selection, and supply, to installation, commissioning, and local support. The result is not just a high-performance fan, but an air solution designed to work within a real process.

ZIEHL-ABEGG bionic design fans with ECblue motors

Bionic design

ZIEHL-ABEGG applies concepts inspired by nature, such as blade geometries associated with the silent flight of the owl, to optimize airflow. This helps improve efficiency, reduce turbulence, and achieve better acoustic performance in ventilation applications.

ECblue motors

High-efficiency EC technology with speed regulation to adapt airflow to the system's real demand. Compared to non-regulated or one-speed and two-speed equipment, it allows more precise operation, lower consumption, and better control of the operating point.

ZAmid material

A high-performance compound developed by ZIEHL-ABEGG. It is lightweight, stable, corrosion-resistant, and 100% recyclable. It is a technical solution for components where durability, low weight, and efficient airflow behavior are required.

Single-source system

Fan, motor, and control designed to work together. This coordination makes it possible to select more stable and efficient solutions, with better control over consumption, noise, airflow, and available pressure.

Efficiency and standards

Solutions are selected considering energy efficiency, ErP requirements, Ecodesign criteria, and applicable regulatory conditions according to configuration, power, environment, and country. When the application requires it, protections such as ATEX, IECEx, anticorrosion, or hygienic design are also evaluated.

Control and monitoring

Easy-configuration control technology, demand-based regulation, and remote supervision options for critical installations. This makes it possible to adjust airflow, monitor operating variables, and support maintenance strategies according to the project scope.

Three fronts, one shared domain

Ventilation, air supply, and extraction for complete air control.

Every plant needs to balance three requirements: renew the air, supply it where it is needed, and remove what the process generates. That is why we design these fronts as a single system, with airflow, pressure, and air paths defined by the operation, not as isolated components.

Industrial ventilation in a production facility

Ventilation

Renew and control the air inside the space.

We renew and control the air in industrial buildings, process areas, and confined spaces to maintain stable and safe conditions. This includes constant air renewal, temperature, humidity, and air quality control, as well as removal of residual heat generated by the operation. Well-designed ventilation does not move air just for the sake of it. It defines the required airflow, the supply or extraction point, the available pressure, and the right control strategy to operate efficiently under real conditions.

Process air supply system in an industrial plant

Air supply

Supply fresh or treated air at the right point.

We supply fresh or treated air into the space or process in the quantity and condition required by the operation. This makes it possible to deliver controlled air to chambers and lines, pressurize spaces, compensate extracted air, and support climate control or filtration systems. Air supply is an essential part of system balance. Without a properly sized air supply, no extraction, refrigeration, or climate control system operates at its optimal point.

Industrial extraction system capturing smoke at the source

Extraction

Remove smoke, heat, humidity, vapors, and particles at the source.

We remove from the environment what the process generates: smoke, heat, humidity, vapors, aerosols, odors, and particles. We capture them as close as possible to the source and conduct them in a controlled way to filters, separators, or outdoor discharge. A well-designed extraction system protects people, machinery, and the product. In addition, by capturing at the source, it avoids oversizing the ventilation of the entire space and helps keep energy consumption under control.

Axial fans

Move large air volumes against low back-pressure. The bionic blade design, inspired by the owl's silent flight, maximizes efficiency and lowers noise. Ideal for condensers, refrigeration, and building ventilation.

Radial fans

Centrifugal fans that deliver higher pressures for long ducts and branched systems. The choice for HVAC, air handling, and processes that must overcome high pressure losses.

Process fans

Specialized solutions for demanding conditions: explosive atmospheres (ATEX), high temperature, ovens and bakery, or corrosive environments, with specific materials and protections.

Motors

ECblue EC-technology motors, controllable and highly efficient, adjusting airflow to actual demand. Coordinated with the fan to optimize consumption, noise, and control.

The fan operates for many hours. That is where much of the savings are found.

In an air system, fans and their motors often represent a significant part of energy consumption because they operate for many hours and, in many cases, under variable conditions. That is why efficiency does not depend only on the installed equipment, but on the complete system: correct airflow, adequate pressure, low pressure losses, speed control, and precise selection of the operating point.

The savings potential lies in designing a solution that delivers the required air without operating permanently at maximum capacity. In new installations or modernization projects, the combination of efficient fans, EC motors, and intelligent control can reduce consumption, noise, and wear, especially in continuous operation processes.

High-efficiency ZIEHL-ABEGG ECblue motor

Continuous consumption

When a fan operates for many hours a day, any improvement in efficiency has a direct impact on the plant's electricity cost.

Demand-based airflow

EC technology makes it possible to adjust speed to the real needs of the process, instead of always operating at maximum airflow.

Operational return

In continuous operation systems, energy savings and reduced wear can accelerate return on investment compared to old or oversized equipment.

Sustainability

Lower electrical consumption means a lower energy footprint, better operational performance, and preparation for increasingly strict efficiency requirements.

Where we apply it

Ventilation, air supply, and extraction for every operation.

Where air is essential to preserve the product, protect people, or sustain the process, we design a system sized to the reality of each plant.

Fans in a cold chain refrigerated chamber

Cold chain and refrigerated storage

Air that cannot stop.

The cold chain is a continuous system. Any ventilation failure can affect temperature, uniformity, product quality, and sanitary compliance. In cold rooms, refrigerated warehouses, and preservation areas, we design systems that distribute air steadily, reduce dead zones, and help cold air reach critical storage areas uniformly. We integrate fans with speed-regulated EC motors to adjust airflow to the chamber's real demand, instead of relying only on non-regulated or limited-speed equipment. Aerodynamic design, low noise level, and control capability support both new projects and modernizations of existing installations, always according to evaporator condition, chamber geometry, thermal load, and operation.

Process refrigeration equipment with axial fans on an industrial rooftop

Industrial and process refrigeration

Remove heat where the process leaves no margin for error.

Many industrial processes only operate correctly within a defined thermal range. Reaction heat, machinery load, condensers, chillers, cooling towers, or process circuits require reliable, stable ventilation designed for demanding conditions. We supply and install axial or radial fans according to airflow, pressure, temperature, environment, and process criticality. When there is risk from explosive atmospheres, aggressive chemicals, corrosion, humidity, or high temperature, we evaluate solutions with specific protections and materials, such as explosion-proof, anticorrosion, or high-resistance configurations. The objective is to sustain the process with controlled air, energy efficiency, and operational reliability.

Fruit ripening chamber with controlled ventilation
Technofruits

Postharvest: ripening and preservation

Uniform, predictable, and controlled ripening.

In ripening and preservation rooms for fruits, vegetables, and flowers, climate defines quality, uniformity, and shelf life. We design ventilation to achieve controlled air distribution over, under, and between the product, maintaining stable temperature, humidity, and renewal conditions according to the process. In applications such as bananas, avocados, and other climacteric fruits, airflow must avoid differences between pallets, load levels, or chamber zones, because small variations can result in uneven ripening. EC technology and intelligent control make it possible to adjust airflow, reduce consumption, and support monitoring strategies. In existing chambers, fan modernization can improve efficiency, noise, and reliability without rebuilding the entire installation. It is the same control requirement we apply in every Technofruits postharvest system.

Paint booth with industrial extraction system

Paint booths and process extraction

Capture at the source, extract with control.

Many manufacturing processes generate aerosols, dust, smoke, gases, vapors, odors, or particles that must be extracted in a controlled way: paint booths, welding stations, grinding, drilling, mixing, or liquid transfer. The technical rule is to capture the emission as close as possible to the source, conduct it to filters or separators, and compensate the extracted air with adequate air supply. We design extraction, air supply, and recirculation systems tailored to the workstation and the space, with fans that can be installed on walls, roofs, ducts, or integrated into filtration modules. For areas with explosion risk or presence of solvents, ATEX, IECEx, sealed versions, stainless steel, or materials resistant to chemicals and temperature are evaluated. Capturing at the source improves safety, air quality, process cleanliness, and energy consumption.

Server room with precision ventilation and hot and cold aisles

Data centers and technical rooms

The climate that cannot fail.

In a data center, server room, telecommunications room, or technical room, air is part of system availability. Servers, processors, UPS units, drives, and electrical panels continuously convert electrical energy into heat. If airflow is not properly designed, temperature, consumption, and failure risk increase. We design precision ventilation and climate control with controlled airflow, airflow separation, speed control, and monitoring according to criticality. EC technology allows ventilation to adapt to the real thermal load, reducing consumption compared to non-regulated solutions. In modernization projects, replacing old fans with efficient and controllable equipment can improve thermal stability, noise, and operating cost without fully modifying the existing infrastructure.

Bottling line with hygienic ventilation

Beverage production and bottling

Clean air as part of the process.

In beverage production, bottling, and packaging, air quality directly influences hygiene, process stability, and product protection. We design ventilation that helps control temperature, humidity, particles, aerosols, and external contaminants, with quiet and efficient operation for areas where personnel also work. We cover applications such as hygienic ventilation, filtered air supply, humidity extraction, and can or bottle drying systems through directed airflow. Depending on the production area and risk level, we evaluate materials resistant to humidity and corrosion, ease of cleaning, hygienic design, pressure control, and applicable regulatory requirements. The objective is to maintain clean air, stable operation, and lower energy impact.

Extraction hood in an industrial kitchen

Industrial kitchens, bakeries, and pastry production

Extract heat, grease, and smoke, and deliver clean air.

Commercial kitchens, bakeries, and pastry facilities generate steam, grease, particles, soot, odors, and strong residual heat from ovens, stoves, fryers, and equipment that may operate simultaneously. We design hood systems, extraction, ductwork, and filtered or conditioned fresh air supply to maintain room balance and improve working conditions. In bakery and pastry production, temperature and humidity control also influence dough quality, fermentation, and the finished product. When combustible dust exists, such as suspended flour, applicable safety and protection criteria are evaluated. We prioritize hygienic, resistant, efficient, and low-noise fans for continuous operation in demanding environments.

Cleanroom with fan filter units in the ceiling

Cleanrooms, laboratories, and pharmaceutical facilities

Controlled air for high-demand processes.

In cleanrooms, laboratories, pharmaceutical facilities, medical devices, high-demand food applications, or semiconductors, processes require controlled air: particles, pressure, temperature, humidity, filtration, and renewal. We design ventilation and filtration systems with efficient and controllable fans, including fan filter units when the application requires it. Selection must consider cleanliness class, differential pressure, filtration level, noise, maintenance, operational continuity, and compatibility with regulations or the client's internal protocols. In these applications, efficiency matters, but air stability and system reliability are just as critical.

How we work

From airflow calculation to commissioning.

Each system is approached according to real site conditions, thermal loads, contaminants, process criticality, and installation restrictions. We define, select, execute, and verify with technical supervision.

01

Assessment and diagnosis

We evaluate the process, the space, heat or contaminant sources, environmental conditions, capture points, ductwork routes, electrical supply, installation restrictions, and operating objectives.

02

Calculation and selection

We define airflow, pressure, pressure losses, fan type, motor, control, protections, and efficiency criteria. When applicable, we use technical selection tools to compare alternatives and validate the operating point.

03

Supply and integration

We specify and supply the coordinated set of fan, motor, control, accessories, ducts, or mounting elements, considering the protections required by each application: anticorrosion, high temperature, hygiene, ATEX, or other special conditions.

04

Installation and commissioning

We install and integrate the system in new projects or existing facilities. We verify rotation direction, control, airflow, vibration, noise, safety, and operation at the defined setpoint.

05

Support and improvement

We provide technical support, spare parts, operating adjustments, maintenance recommendations, and monitoring or modernization options when the system's criticality requires it.

Retrofit to improve efficiency without rebuilding the entire installation.

A new installation is not always necessary. In many facilities, replacing old, non-regulated, oversized, or one-speed and two-speed fans with high-efficiency EC equipment and integrating intelligent control can significantly reduce the consumption of an existing installation.

Modernization is evaluated case by case: required airflow, available pressure, physical space, electrical supply, control signal, condition of the existing equipment, and actual operating hours. When the system allows it, retrofit is a practical way to improve OPEX, noise, and reliability in chambers, technical rooms, condensers, process lines, and extraction systems already in operation.

Ventilation modernization with EC motors on an existing installation

Potential energy savings

Switching to EC technology and demand-based regulation can reduce consumption, especially in continuous operation systems or old equipment without speed control.

Simple integration

In many cases, equipment can be adapted to existing installations without rebuilding the entire system, using available control signals and structures.

Less noise and wear

Better selection, aerodynamic design, and speed control help reduce operating noise, vibration, and mechanical wear.

Measurable return

Return depends on operation, electricity rate, and hours of use, but in continuous applications, energy savings can become a direct improvement in operating cost.
